The very scary monsters from Tom Morgan-Jones’s Folklore and Superstition map of the UK are coming to Huntly and will be hiding somewhere around town. So pop into Orb’s bookshop and pick up your entry form... then, if you’re brave enough....begin the monster hunt!

Children’s illustration competitions. Draw a goblin or a princess and hand it in at Orb’s bookshop to win prizes. Winners announced by illustrator Tom Morgan-Jones on Friday 6th Sept at 4.45pm in the Gallery. 

 

Open illustration competition for over 18’s who can include details of their work on Instagram or a website. Entrants will have the chance to win six months free mentoring provided by www. picturehooks.org.uk on their Buddy Scheme. This offers those who want to get published, a chance to access the world of children’s publishing.

 

Those without their work on a website or Instagram have the chance to win £100 voucher for art materials.

7pm in No 30 ‘Life as a children’s Illustrator’ with Ross Collins and Kate Leiper in the gallery at No 30. Two of the most well known illustrators working in Scotland today give an insight into their methods and work. Tickets £3 available from Orb’s bookshop or phone 01466 793765 to book.

1.30-3.00 Make your own creation (at Square Deal) to be included in the community animation project on the 7th Sept. Just come along. Materials and help provided.

11am Andrew Barr launches his new map of Huntly at No 30. 

2pm Screening of film ‘Modern British Wood Engraving’ at No 30

Create your own fantasy castle picture at Huntly Castle.

Monday 2nd Sept

10.10am Come and find out all about creating manga and graphic novels with Sean Michael Wilson, who will be talking from his home in Japan. Held at The Gordon Schools. All welcome.

4pm Animation after school at No 30.International animated films for ages 8+ Just turn up.

Come along to find out about a career in animation - a talk by Anna Skinner, senior 3D animator at Oscar winning animation studio ‘Interference Pattern’ 2pm in the cinema at No 30.

12.15pm Folk Tales for grown-ups with artist and storyteller, Eileen Budd in the gallery at No 30 with lunch. Free. Booking essential. Call in at Orb’s bookshop or phone 01466 793765 to book.

10am-5pm wood engraving workshop with Jonathan Gibbs at Huntly Library.
 

4pm Artists after school with Tom Morgan-Jones illustrator of ‘Mangy Mummies’, ‘Gory Gladiators’, ‘Banished, Beheaded or Boiled in oil’ and many other very scary books. Held in the gallery at No 30. Come and get tips on drawing Monsters with extra ‘grrr’ and ‘oomph’. 

4.45pm prize giving ceremony in the gallery with Tom Morgan-Jones.

Saturday 7th Sept

All day Community Animation Project with Simon P Biggs at No 30. Come along for 30 minutes or 3 hours.
